Ever get to a certain point in your life where things are going along pretty well and then BAM! Out of nowhere, some kind of giant crisis flies up and smacks you in the face? For some it’s a health emergency, for others it’s a financial issue. It could be a personal tragedy or a business decision gone awry. No matter what, it can be devastating! You feel as if you’re the only one in the world having to deal with such a challenge.

In their new book “It’s Okay to Be Scared – but Never Give Up,” Jim Palmer and Martin Howey share their own personal stories of crisis and recovery. One of their goals in writing this book is to emphasize the importance of and encourage readers to get proper health screenings so they can maintain good health. Both authors are cancer survivors, but that’s not all this book is about. They’re also respected business people and there are many lessons to learn here. Let’s say it’s a book of hope and inspiration for life and business.

Jim and Martin also conducted and share the transcripts of in depth interviews with nine other successful business people. They asked them all “what was your biggest challenge, in your personal life or business?” and “how did you handle it?”

Then they pull back the curtain and you get to see what’s really gone on behind the scenes in the lives of successful people such as James Malinchak, Joe Polish, and Melanie Benson Strick Vander. You may be surprised at how candid and authentic they all were. What you learn is that you’re NOT alone, and no matter what, you will get through it. In some cases, their stories, insight and wisdom may help you avoid similar hazards altogether because each entrepreneur also shares a valuable business success strategy to help make 2012 a year of abundance.

At the end of the book, each contributor sums up his or her main message in a few bullet points for quick review. This paperback was like a bag of chips for me. I could hardly put it down and kept wanting to read just one more page. I bet you’ll feel the same way.

    Life is not perfect.

Challenges come against us when we least expect it. The diagnosis from the doctor. The news about the death of a loved one. The end of a marriage. The failure of a business. I could go on, but I won’t. I think the point is clear: none of us lives a perfect life. We will all face challenges that frighten us.

What determines whether our lives will be remembered and celebrated, or merely suffered and forgotten, is how we respond to those challenges.

Case in point: the stories of personal tragedy and triumph that are told in this book by Jim Palmer and Martin Howey. Their stories, and the wisdom they’ve gained from personal experience, will serve as a well of inspiration and hope for anyone facing a giant problem in their life. Whether you’re battling cancer, experiencing personal tragedy, the collapse of a business, or any kind of darkness, you will find encouragement and practical advice in these pages.

This book helps you understand the mechanism (the how-to) of not giving up, and instead pressing on. Even when you’re afraid.

This wonderful book is a compilation of transcripts from interviews conducted by Jim Palmer and Martin Howey. They asked a dozen people who’ve undergone serious personal or business adversity to describe their challenge and how they overcame it. The challenges included life-threatening health issues, the unexpected loss of a loved one, and near-bankruptcy of a company. I was moved by each person’s willingness to reveal the doubts and fears that gripped them during their difficulties, and I was inspired by their perseverance and sustained optimism. I found that I could immediately apply many of their solutions in my own life. If you enjoy books about real people struggling with real issues, as opposed to the fake “reality” of many of today’s TV shows, you will love this book.

Another important message conveyed through these stories is the importance of getting regular checks for early detection of cancer, such as mammogram and colonoscopy. Some of the experiences described here will, hopefully, serve as a wake-up call for readers who’ve been putting off tests that could save their lives.

If no other book has inspirited you to pursue your goals in this recessed economy–or featured successful entrepreneurs who reveal how–this book should prove to be a most rewarding investment.

Any resource produced by Jim Palmer or Martin Howey is a must-read/must-see, and “It’s Okay to Be Scared–but Never Give Up” combines decades of their personal and business success expertise, and that of the entrepreneurs they interviewed in depth for the book, to deliver to the reader a fusion of these professionals’ top tips for attaining one’s aspirations.

Each interviewee candidly shares the personal, health, business, and life challenges he or she had to surmount on the climb to success, and the mental viewpoint and implementable steps each took to reach that pinnacle.

These are real people, virtually all of whom started out with nothing, on roads littered with obstacles. Yet they have achieved what many would call “impossible,” including battles won over cancer, global business prosperity, and the know-how it takes to continue to advance.

If your goal is to achieve the same, then this book is the one to own.

This book is outstanding! All of us face struggles at some point in our life, but the true measure of our character is how we deal with those challenges. Each of these stories is relatable and moving. If you are looking for a little hope and inspiration, you just found it.

I am a friend of Martin Howey’s so I was always going to buy this book. But I have to admit that it sounded a little more touchy-feely than the books I normally read. On top of that I wasn’t sure that the multiple contributors would work effectively.

I am happy to report that my fears were totally unfounded.
In fact the variety of contributors gives this book a depth that makes it stand out from most books I have read.
In addition, as alluded to in my title of this review, their is a wealth of ‘hard’ business strategy and tactics as well as ‘soft’ mindset and inspirational content, makes this a multi-dimensional book unlike any book I can recall.

The bottom line is that I learned a lot,and took a lot of notes. But the most telling thing is that now this book is in my bookshelf, and I know that when the chips are down and I am facing tough times, (in business or with my health), I know that I will be reaching for this book as my first port of call.
